INFOGRAPHIC
This is an infographic poster about the traditional Zongzi also known as rice dumplings. This infographic serves to promote the interesting story behind rice dumplings and at the same time educate the audience on what a rice dumpling is and the ingredients that are used to make up a rice dumpling.
THEME
I wanted to design an infographic that makes use of Chinese style illustrations, for example the clouds and the sea. As for the mountains, I researched on paintings that were used for olden China maps. This is because rice dumplings originated from China, thus Chinese style illustrations would be more appropriate. I illustrated the dragon as such that it is similar to how Chinese would traditionally describe and see it as. This is because rice dumplings originated from China, thus Chinese style illustrations would be more appropriate.
A yellow tint is added to the background to mimic an olden Chinese map, with the chapters/ strokes mapping out points on the dragon. The reason for this is to make the infographic actually feel like a journey about the story of rice dumplings for the readers and to immerse them in this adventure into history!
ILLUSTRATION
As for the illustration of the myth, I also researched on the clothing and appearance of Chinese natives and kings of the olden days. All illustrations of Chinese characters are based on the actual paintings from the myth. Illustrations of clothing, mountains, dragon and food have been researched based on the time period the story of rice dumplings began to accurately portray the story of rice dumplings.
For the rice dumpling, I illustrated them
such that it looks more realistic than the background. This makes the rice dumpling stand out and be clearly seen. The difference in illustration styles between the rice dumpling and background also adds to the depth of
the infographic.
